Canadian zoomer author Scott Anderson has a new book that chronicles the Arab revolt of the First World War and the political manoeuvering to establish the modern middle east.
Anderson’s book is called Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly, and the Making of the Modern Middle East. His book centres on the work or T.E. Lawrence and three other characters: a German, an American, and a Romanian Zionist.
Anderson told Good Day GTA on our sister station, The New Classical 96.3 FM that the middle east is now seeing the consequences of the artificial boundaries created almost 100 years ago. “Iraq today is essentially three countries, and the divisions are right along the lines of the old ottoman provinces that preceded the British creating the nation of Iraq. Libya today is rapidly becoming three countries, and again it’s falling along the old ottoman lines. I think you’re seeing something similar happening in Syria.”
Lawrence in Arabia is published by Doubleday Canada.
