The Etobicoke York Community Council is recommending that Chris Stockwell be appointed to replace Doug Holyday as Ward 3 city councillor.

He took six of the nine votes.

Stockwell was chosen from among 45-high profile candidates including former councillor John Nunziata and Bruce Sinclair – who lost the race for the Etobicoke mayor’s job in the 1990’s to Doug Holyday.

Toronto city council must confirm the selection and is not bound by today’s decision.

Stockwell was elected as city of Etobicoke controller in 1982  and held the position until his election to the Metropolitan Toronto council in November 1988.

Former Deputy Mayor, Doug Holyday quit local politics  to become the Conservative MPP  for Etobicoke-Lakeshore.
