In Washington, a White House spokesman says the agreement reached between the Republicans and Democrats removes the threat of default on its debt payments and restores non-essential services that have been unavailable for the last 16-days.
Jay Carney says the White House is in favour of quick congressional approval of the deal which would raise the debt ceiling and end the partial shutdown.
But it’s a temporary solution.
Today’s agreement will re-open the U-S government only through January 15 and increase the government’s borrowing authority through February 7.
