The Swedish Academy says Canadian Nobel Laureate Alice Munro will not be in Stockholm to collect her award at a December 10 ceremony. Academy secretary Peter Englund says the 82-year-old Canadian writer has declined the invitation because of poor health. It’s not yet clear who will represent her. Last Thursday the academy announced Munro had won the prize for literature, calling her a “master of the contemporary short story.” The award comes with a $1.2 million dollar prize.
