Toronto Director Chris Abraham has won the most lucrative prize in Canadian performing arts. Former Globe and Mail reporter Greame Smith has won the most lucrative prize for non-fiction in Canada. The Siminovitch goes to Abraham, the artistic director of Crow’s Theatre and brings with it $75 thousand for the winner and $25 thousand for his protege. 12 years ago the first Siminovitch went to Daniel Brooks who named Abraham named as his protege. Abraham has selected Mitchell Cushman to follow in his footsteps. Meantime, the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Award goes to Smith for his book “The Dogs are Eating Them Now” which is the result of six years of reporting on Canada’s participation in the war in Afghanistan. The Weston prize comes with an purse of $60 thousand.
