There’s no word on how it got here, but an embroidered vest worn by clergymen has been found in a Toronto church, which may have ties to Oscar Wilde. A chasuble, found in a drawer at St. Batholomew’s Anglican Church, was loaned to St. James Cathedral for an exhibit called “Sacred Stitches”. An archivist says the vest was made from the wedding dress of Augusta Elizabeth Baldwin, who married John Ross, the president of the Grand Trunk Railway, in England in 1851. Their son, Robert Baldwin Ross, is believed by many historians to have been Wilde’s lover. The chasuble is one of 118 multifaith items on display for the exhibit, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Dioceses of Toronto’s Ecclesiastical Needle Committee. The exhibit runs from October 25 to November 1 at St. James Cathedral
