Antonia Bird, known for films such as ”Priest” and ”Mad Love” has died.
The 54-year old British director had been suffering from anaplastic thyroid cancer and passed away in her sleep.
Bird worked for several years at the Royal Court Theater before making the switch to TV in the mid-80s, earning credits on shows like ”EastEnders.”
”Priest,” Bird’s 1994 debut film about a Catholic who begins questioning the church’s values, picked up awards at the Toronto, Berlin and Edinburgh film festivals.
