The Prime Minister faced persistent questions in the House of Commons today about the Conservative Party payment of legal expenses for Senator Mike Duffy.
Duffy was told by Prime Minister Stephen Harper that he acted illegally by claiming 90-thousand dollars in housing expenses, and should pay the money back.
Mr. Harper told the Commons it’s a normal practice of political parties to pay the legal expenses of its members.
The Prime Minister has held firm in his call for the suspension of three former Conservative Party senators saying he’s convinced they acted improperly in filing housing and travel expense claims.
Yesterday, Duffy told the Senate that at least two cheques were written in what he called an elaborate fraud to cover up his expenses.
But Duffy also maintained that he was told his expenses were legitimate.
