It’s a move to improve heart-health as we age. The US Federal Drug Administration is forcing the food industry to gradually phase out all trans fats. Trans fats are found in processed foods, including some microwave popcorns and frozen pizzas, refrigerated doughs and ready-to-use frostings. Trans fats have long been criticized by nutritionists and are banned in New York and elsewhere. The FDA says once trans fats are off the list, anyone who wants to use them would have to petition the agency for a regulation allowing it but likely not be approved. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg says the move could prevent 20-thousand heart attacks a year and 7-thousand deaths.
