AGGRESSIVE RESIDENTS PROBLEM FOR NURSING HOMES

There is a new challenge emerging as Ontario continues to cope with an aging population; how to deal with aggressive and violent residents of nursing homes.
Research by the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors, shows that 11 per cent, or about 84 hundred of the 78-thousand residents of Ontario long-term-care homes are considered aggressive and that number is expected to grow. The CEO of the OANHSS says there are not enough people adequately trained to deal with the problem of aggressive residents. Donna Rubin says it’s what keeps people up at night. They can’t guarantee residents safety
