The death toll from Typhoon Haiyan has now surpassed 2 thousand. However, the president of the country says he thinks the final number of those killed will be much lower than the 10-thousand initially predicted. Relief workers are trying to get more food, water and medicine to survivors. Two more airports have opened in the region and the U-S military is installing equipment so relief flights can land at night. A Canadian reconnaissance team landed yesterday to determine to what extent the Disaster Assistance Response Team is needed. The full DART team remains in Hawaii and Defense Minister Rob Nicholson say they’ll be deployed once it’s been determined where the team can do the most good. The typhoon that hit the Philippines is one of the most powerful on record. It blasted through the country Friday, destroying tens of thousands of buildings and displacing some 600 thousand people.
