Toronto’s embattled mayor says he’s taking city council to court.
Rob Ford’s retaliatory strike came as council passed two motions to curtail his powers – during a special session today.
Ford says the unprecedented action to sideline him leaves him with no choice but to go to court.
He also says he regrets the cost to taxpayers and the move by council will affect not only him but anyone else who steps out of line – including councillors and the mayor for years to come.
But council pressed ahead and passed the first of three motions to strip Ford of his ability to appoint key committee chairs 39-3.
Council then debated and passed a second motion to take away the mayor’s emergency powers by a vote of 41-2.
A third motion to be debated on Monday would see his office essentially moved to the control of the deputy mayor.
