Rob Ford’s recent outbursts and admissions of crack smoking and drunkenness are causing people in the city of Austin, Texas, to question a recent music alliance with the City of Toronto.
Six weeks ago, Ford was in Austin where he signed an agreement with Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell that would encourage trade and cross-cultural music exchanges between the two cities.
Now a spokeswoman for Music Canada says officials in Austin are getting calls questioning the wisdom of the agreement in light of the Ford scandal.
Councillor Michael Thompson went into damage-control mode on Friday. The Chair of Toronto’s Economic Development committee wrote to Leffingwell calling the Ford scandal “unacceptable and extremely regrettable” and assuring him that city council has things under control.
Thompson says Austin officials have “simmered down” since they received his letter.
