Dame Helen Mirren has won another award for playing Queen Elizabeth.
Mirren won the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for her performance as the Queen in Peter Morgan’s play, The Audience. It’s the third award she has received for playing the Queen. She won an Oscar for the title role in The Queen in 2006. And she won an Olivier award for The Audience earlier this year.
In accepting the award, Mirren said she felt the success of the play was due to the Queen herself, whom Mirren called “that extraordinary woman.”
Mirren wasn’t the only member of the theatrical nobility on stage last night. Maggie Smith received the Standard’s Theatre Icon Award, and Andrew Lloyd Webber was recognized for his contribution to musical theatre.
