The Stratford Festival is beginning to win back its audience.

Two years ago, the Festival’s attendance dropped below 500,000 for the first time in almost 20 years, with 455,044 tickets sold.

The slide continued last year, with 432,240 tickets sold.

But Stratford has just announced an eleven per cent increase in attendance this season to 480,232. That exceded expectations.

The company points to the popular and critical success of its first season under new Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino. It also credits some new incentives for helping to bring back playgoers, including daily bus service from Toronto, two-for-one Tuesdays, and a loyalty program.

And next season is off to a good start. Tickets for 2014 went on sale to members last week, and are already up eleven per cent over last year.
