Brampton city council has ordered a forensic audit of the spending of Mayor Susan Fennell after a news report revealed she had billed taxpayers $186,000 in expenses in less that three years.

The Brampton Guardian obtained the expenses following a Freedom of Information request. It showed that, on top of being the highest-paid mayor in Canada, Fennell expensed items ranging from a one-dollar download on ITunes to a 32-hundred dollar upgrade on a plane ticket to India.

Fennell has a limo and driver on call 24 hours a day at a cost of $46,000 a year. The city also pays $1,400 a month for an SUV for the mayor.

Council voted 8-0 to order the audit.

Fennell defended her expenses, and said the audit should be extended to cover all city councillors.
