Want to live longer?  Try eating nuts regularly.  Nuts have long been called heart-healthy, but a new 30 year U.S. study suggests they lower the risk of early death.  Harvard University study author Doctor Charles Fuchs says even though nuts are not a low-calorie or low-fat food, they are very healthy.  “Regular nut users tend to be leaner and tend to have lower rates of obesity.  So it may be the nature of the calories as an alternative to the high carbohydrate snacks that people typically enjoy.  And it may also be its effect on metabolism in general.”

The researchers tracked nearly 120-thousand people who have been answering detailed surveys on lifestyle and diet habits since the 1980s.  The benefits were seen from peanuts as well as from pistachios, almonds, walnuts and other tree nuts.
