People in a lot of southern and eastern Ontario are bracing for a blast of winter weather starting tonight and heading into Wednesday morning.
Snowfall warnings have been issued for eastern areas including Kingston, Belleville, Cornwall and also for Ottawa, with as much as 25 centimetres of snow predicted by Environment Canada.
The weather office says a system southeast of New Orleans is tracking northeast and is expected to intensify into a winter storm -and eastern Ontario will be close enough to the storm track to get a significant snowfall before the system moves into western Quebec.
A special weather statement has also been issued for the Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara areas, along with Peterborough and up to Algonquin Park to the east, warning of wet snow associated with the approaching system.
The bad weather is expected to first spread over the southern regions near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario by early this evening – and as northerly winds pump in colder air from the Arctic, the precipitation will change to snow by Wednesday morning.
