Former mayoral candidate George Smitherman and celebrated film maker Deepa Mehta are endorsing Olivia Chow for Toronto mayor though Chow says she hasn’t yet decided to run. But she adds that she is seriously considering the possibility of becoming a candidate. Smitherman says his support for Chow, is first and foremost about her maturity and that she’s a pragmatic progressive. Smitherman began the 2010 campaign as the front runner in the polls just as Chow is today but was defeated by Ford, 47 per cent to 36 per cent. The only two declared challengers are Councillor Karen Stintz and businessman and former councillor David Soknacki. The 10-month campaign officially begins on January 2nd.
