The Golden Globe nominations have narrowed the field of possible candidates for the Oscars. But only slightly.
Lists of Best Films by critics associations have varied widely, giving no clear consensus so far.
The Golden Globes have separate categories for comedy and dramatic films. And we now know what’s in the running.
In the comedy category, the contenders are American Hustle, Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
In the drama category, it’s Captain Philips, Gravity, Philomena, Rush, and 12 Years a Slave.
The best dramatic actress category is almost an all-Zoomer affair. Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench, and Emma Thompson compete with Kate Blanchette — who officially becomes a Zoomer in May — and Kate Winslet, who still has 15 years to go.
Two Canadians were nominated. Michael J. Fox is in the running for Best actor in a TV comedy. Regina-born Tatiana Maslany was nominated for best actress in a drama for Orphan Black.
The Golden Globes will be given out January 12th.
