The locked-out musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra are going it on their own.

The players will self-produce 10 concerts and perform in them – between January and May.

They’ve been locked out by management since October 2012.

The musicians of the renowned orchestra have enlisted some star power : violinists Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell will each perform one concert.

Former music director Osmo Vanskä will also return as guest conductor for four concerts – two of which will celebrate the orchestra’s 2nd consecutive Grammy nomination – this time for recordings of Sibelius Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4.

As well as performing, the musicians are handling the complicated details of creating concert programs, scheduling rehearsals and selling tickets.

Guest artists are being offered nothing near their usual fees and some have returned the money – to help the project.
