WestJet Airlines has announced that it will ask for permission to operate Boeing 737 Max aircraft from Toronto s Billy Bishop airport downtown. Chief Executive Officer Gregg Saretsky says the airline wants access to the island airport but right now there are no slots available. WestJet currently operates about 95 daily flights at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Passenger jets are prohibited at Billy Bishop, a ban that Porter Airlines wants to overturn. Toronto City Council’s executive committee voted two weeks ago to defer a decision until 2014 on whether to allow jets and lengthen the runway.
