Toronto Hydro says fewer than one hundred customers are without power after the worst ice storm to hit eastern Canada occurred ten days ago. Most of the outages are in North York, East York and Scarborough. Toronto Hydro CEO Anthony Haines says crews are out in full force and hope to have everyone reconnected before the new year rings in a midnight. More than 300-thousand customers were without power at the peak of the emergency. Toronto Hydro is asking individuals who do not have power in an area that has been reconnected to phone 416-542-8000 to report it. The province is also pitching in, along with the private sector to provide food to people who lost food to spoilage due to the prolonged power outage. The province is making grocery store gift cards available at its 15 Ontario Works offices in Toronto until Friday. The programme is suspended for New Year’s day. The gift cards are jointly funded by the provincial government and grocery retailers.
