As the passenger backlog improves at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, a decision has been made to keep secret the results of a review of this week’s airport shutdown.

Greater Toronto Airports Authority CEO Howard Eng returns to Toronto today from a business trip a day early, more than 48 hours after operations at Pearson ground to a half because of the extreme cold.  He has remained silent since the crisis.

GTAA spokesperson Scott Armstrong tells the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back, a review is conducted after every extreme weather event that affects the airport, but the results of those reviews are kept confidential.  “We look at what went well, what didn’t go well, where can we improve,” Armstrong explained, “We look at what to we need to change, fix, fine tune, all of that stuff, so communications will be part of that process.  But we did our best as things were unfolding and this was a dynamic developing situation.”

Thousands of weary passengers remained stranded at Toronto’s airport yesterday waiting in long lines to rebook cancelled flights.  The backlog is slowly improving and all flights are running close to normal today.
