A Broadway production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is being will be seen in movie theatres around Valentine’s Day.

The story of the star-crossed lovers starred Orlando Bloom in the first production of Romeo and Juliet on Broadway in 36 years.

Two live performances of the play were filmed on November 27th, just days before the production closed. It received poor reviews and struggled at the box office, but producers no doubt hope the presence of one of the stars of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the timeless tragedy of the two young lovers, will draw audiences, especially around Valentine’s Day.

It’s the latest attempt to bring the stage to the screen that was pioneered by the Metropolitan Opera and the London National Theatre.
