A self-professed crossword fanatic is celebrating two milestone events this week.  On Saturday, Bernice Gordon turns 100.  Tomorrow, the New York Times will publish another one of her puzzles.  Gordon has created crosswords for decades for the Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and others, including puzzle syndicates and brain teaser books.  And she still constructs a new grid everyday. With tomorrow’s publication, Gordon becomes the first centenarian to have a crossword grid printed in the newspaper.  Interestingly, she is nearly as old as the crossword puzzle itself.  The first “word-cross” appeared in the New York Sunday World On December 21st, 1913.
