It’s an act of kindness by a Barrie man that’s created a big buzz on social media. Widower Lee Ballantyne was alone at his table in a restaurant on January 7th still grieving the death of his wife Carol from lung cancer the previous month. Looking across the restaurant at a young couple reminded Ballantyne of happier times. He wrote a note on a napkin saying that his wife of 43 years had died the previous week and he was dinning without her. Then he offered to pay for the young couples dinner saying it would put a smile on his wife’s face and make him happy too. The note went viral after a waiter posted it on Reddit, a website of user-generated links. Within a week the note had an estimated one million views around the world. Ballantyne says he’s more than a little dazed by the online interest.
