Good news for Ontarians working for minimum wage.

Reports out of Queens Park say the government will announce a wage increase this week – retroactive to 2010.

A special advisory panel set up to look at ways of adjusting the minimum wage recommends that it be tied to the inflation rate.

It also suggests that businesses get four months warning of any increases.

Inflationary increases from 2011 through to 2013 would dictate a new minimum wage of $10.80 – up from the current $10.25 an hour.

Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne has promised quick action.

The Ontario minimum wage has been frozen at $10.25 an hour for more than 3 years. The student minimum is $9.60.

Also today Health Minister Deb Matthews said Personal Support Workers who aid seniors and the sick here in Ontario can expect a better wage.

The minimum rate for PSW’s is $12.50 an hour and that hasn’t changed for several years.
