A big boost for those who need treatment for mental illness. Twenty-million dollars is being pledged over six years by the Ontario government for a new initiative aimed at helping people get treatment for mental and physical illness. The provincial Health Minister says the new Medical Psychiatry Alliance will offer support including new screening and diagnostic tools and specialized training for medical students. Deb Matthews also says Ontarians will get a patient advocate to help them navigate the health-care system as well as improved wages for support workers who help the ill and seniors.
