The Impossible Dreamer is gone.
Mitch Leigh, a 1960s New York advertising jingle composer, who made a big splash on Broadway, has died at 86.
He wrote the music for clients like Consolidated Foods, which became the Sara Lee Corporation. Remember ”Everybody doesn’t like something, but nobody doesn’t like Sara Lee”.
After composing music for a couple of Broadway comedies, Leigh got his big break in 1964. The show – ”Man of La Mancha” – featuring the signature number ”The Impossible Dream”. It ran from 1965 until 1971 and won five Tony Awards, including best composer for Leigh.
While he wrote the music for several more Broadway shows that was his lone hit.
