Canada’s new Finance Minister Joe Oliver says the Harper government will keep its campaign promises on income splitting.
But for now, Oliver says that he wants to focus on creating the conditions for job creation.
Oliver is the former Minister of Natural Resources. He made the comment today just hours after being sworn in as Finance Minister to replace Jim Flaherty.
Flaherty has questioned whether income splitting is a good idea.
But late last month, Prime Minister Stephen Harper reaffirmed his support for the policy – saying it would be excellent for Canadian families.
Junior minister Greg Rickford, meanwhile, takes over at Natural Resources.
Ed Holder, who represents the southern Ontario riding of London West, replaces Rickford as Minister of State for Science and Technology.
