The federal government has announced that it will appeal a court ruling that granted an injunction for medical marijuana users who grow their marijuana at home. The injunction allows those who have a personal production license to grow medical marijuana, to continue for now, until the court issues a final decision. Under new rules, users were to stop growing the plants and a use commercial growers, starting tomorrow, April 1st. Ottawa’s intention to appeal doesn’t change that. The Health Canada statement reinforces the government’s intention that medical marijuana production and distribution will be turned over to government approved commercial growers. The changes also mean that authorization to possess medicinal pot for patients with chronic pain or diseases will shift from Health Canada to physicians. Doctors will be able to approve allowing patients to purchase up to 150 grams of dried marijuana each month.
