Rob Ford’s brother and campaign manager Doug has given a statement on the family’s behalf .

He did so in light of reports of a new video of the Mayor apparently smoking crack cocaine and also being intoxicated and making sexist remarks about mayoral candidate Karen Stintz in a bar earlier this week.

Visibly upset and at times on the verge of tears, Doug Ford calls this one of the toughest days of his life but at the same time is relieved the mayor’s decided to seek professional help for alcohol abuse.

The councillor adds he’ll continue to stand by the mayor and asks the media to respect his privacy.

There are reports Rob Ford’s flown to Chicago.

It’s unclear how long he’ll be away.

His lawyer claims it’ll only be for 30 days.
