Born Genaro Louis Vitaliano, he started performing in New York supper clubs as a teen.

Jerry Vale, who had been in declining health, died at his Palm Desert home.

He was 83.

The crooner with the high-tenor voice recorded over 50 albums in the 1950s and 1960s.

Vale’s biggest hit was ”You Don’t Know Me.”

However, his rendition of ”Volare,” ”Innamorata” and ”Al Di La” became classic Italian-American songs.

When Vale’s music failed to make the charts in the 1970s, he did remain a popular club act.

He also appeared as himself in the movies ”Goodfellas,” ”Casino” and the hit TV series ”The Sopranos”.
