John Tory’s newly-announced Toronto transit plan adds more bus lanes and would see more parking tickets handed out during rush-hour.

His five-point plan also calls for more express buses along busy routes such as Don Mills Road, Dufferin Street and along Front Street into Liberty Village.

Tory wants to keep the Gardiner intact – but a city staff report recommends ripping down the expressway and replacing it with a tree-lined boulevard at street level.

The candidate prefers to look at options for changing the eastern portion of the Gardiner to grow commercial development in the East Donlands area.

His transit policy also includes support for building a downtown relief line – but one of Tory’s top priorities is the creation of  a rapid transit relief line running beyond the city’s downtown core and extending from Mississauga, through Etobicoke and right up to Markham.

The project would be electrified and would use existing Go Transit rail for the 53 kilometre route which Tory says could be completed in 7 years.
