The premier is responding to new allegations by the Tories that the Liberals secretly approved a $317-million bailout of the MaRS Research Centre in downtown Toronto.
Kathleen Wynne says ”the allegations … are untrue” and that the value of the building would cover the cost of the loan, but stresses the deal’s not done.
If approved, the premier says it would provide space to move in civil servants currently paying rent elsewhere.
Plus Wynne says the province could then lease out any remaining space.
”Having a building that we own … that allows government of Ontario offices and functions to be located in one place, that’s a responsible thing to do.”
