Ontario’s air ambulance service reportedly facing 17 offences under the Canadian Labour Code.
All charges relate to what happened on early May 31, 2013.
Four Ornge employees – two pilots, two paramedics – died after their helicopter crashed shortly after taking off from the airport in Moosonee.
They were on the way to pick up a patient on the Attawapiskat First Nation reserve.
A court document reportedly alleges that Ornge allowed the pilots to fly the chopper ”without adequate training in the operation of that specific aircraft,” failed to provide the pilots with ”a means to enable them to maintain visual reference while operating at night,” plus that the crew’s captain, had ”insufficient experience in night operations.”
In October last year, it was revealed that Ornge officials were warned by a safety officer at the base in Moosonee that the combination of green pilots, flying in the dark, would likely result in a deadly accident.
The development comes amid the ongoing OPP investigation into the mishandling of government money by top Ornge officials.
