American  lawmakers have come out in favour of blocking the federal government from interfering with states that permit the use of medical marijuana.

Almost half of the states in the U.S.A. have legalized marijuana for medical use – but federal laws still regard the weed’s possession as a crime.

Congressman Earl Blumenauer says it’s time the Drug Enforcement Administration stopped going after marijuana operations – in states where medical marijuana is legal.

The amendment passed by a surprising 219-to-189 vote and was broadly supported by conservative Republican lawmakers.
