Prime Minister Harper has nominated Quebec Court of Appeal judge Clement Gascon – to fill the seat on the Supreme Court of Canada held previously by Justice Morris Fish.
It’s take two for Harper.
He had earlier tried to fill the seat with semi-retired Federal Court of Appeal judge Marc Nadon – who wasn’t eligible to sit as a Quebec justice.
Harper’s newest choice served for 10 years on the Quebec Superior Court before joining the Court of Appeal in 2012.
Harper says the nomination was the result of broad consultations with the legal community – and Gascon’s wealth of legal knowledge and experience will be of significant benefit to the highest court in the land.
