You may be surprised to learn that giving birth was the leading reason for hospital stays in Canada in 2012-13, accounting for nearly 370,000 hospitalizations. And, just over 100-thousand of those were Cesarean sections.
While having a baby usually requires a much shorter hospital stay, heart failure had the longest average hospital stay of just over 9 days. Among surgeries, hip replacements were associated with the longest average hospitalization at nearly 8 days.
The report is from the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
