Whimsical drawings and manuscripts by John Lennon for his critically acclaimed books are selling for well above their pre-auction estimates.
Sotheby’s is selling the 89-piece collection from the former Beatle’s books, ”In His Own Write” and ”A Spaniard in the Works.”
The nonsensical poem ”The Fat Budgie” and a handwritten manuscript ”I Sat Belonely” were expected to fetch up to $35,000 each.
But one went for $143,000, the other $137,000.
It’s largest private collection of Lennon’s work to come to market.
A British publisher has owned it for a half-century.
