Canadians do not want to die in pain or alone or to be a burden to their loved ones.

The Canadian Medical Association says that’s the message that came through loud and clear following a series of public town halls across the country and online discussions.

In a just released report, the CMA says there has to be a national dialogue about end-of-life care, including Canadians opinions about euthanasia and physician-assisted death.

The group goes on to say Canadians want access to palliative care and to be able to talk openly about dying with their doctors and families.

Physician assisted death’s illegal in Canada, but just last week the Quebec government passed landmark right-to-die legislation.

The passage of Bill 52 sets up a potential legal challenge by the federal government.
