It was a special day for Mississauga’s zoomer mayor who was honoured for her contributions to building and improving relations between Japan and Canada. Hazel McCallion was given Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun during a ceremony yesterday at the official residence of the Consul General of Japan here in Toronto.  She also received the honour for her help with the sister city initiative between Mississauga and Kariya, Japan which has been going on since 1981.  In a release, the mayor said she was pleased to receive the honour.  “I’ve very honoured to receive the Order of the Rising Sun,” said McCallion.  “Mississauga and Japan businesses have enjoyed a great relationship and I’ve often said that Mississauga is the Japanese capital of Canada.  As well, I’m very proud of our sister-city relationship with Karya where citizens from both cities have exchanged great experiences in the name of friendship.”
