Joe Fontana says he’s ”shocked, devastated” by the guilty verdict at his trial on charges of fraud, forgery and breach of trust that date back to his time as a Liberal MP.
The judge in the trial of Joe Fontana ruled the former federal cabinet minister abused the public trust by altering a contract he submitted that led to the government paying $1,700 for expenses for his son’s wedding in 2005.
He says he’ll consider a possible appeal.
The 64-year old Fontana had refused to step down as mayor while the case was before the courts but says he’ll make a statement soon about his political future.
He’s to be sentenced July 15th.
