A Toronto police constable has been committed to stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder in last summer’s death of a teen aboard a streetcar.
Officer James Forcillo is expected to go to trial next year.
His preliminary inquiry, which determined if there was enough evidence to go to trial, wrapped up today, but all of the evidence is under publication ban.
18-year old Sammy Yatim was shot on an empty streetcar last July 27th.
The incident was captured on surveillance and cellphone video on which nine shots can be heard following shouted commands to drop a knife.
Const. Forcillo, who’s out on $510,000 bail, was suspended with pay but returned to active duty in February in an administrative role at Toronto Crimestoppers.
