A playwright has won the Trillium Book Award for the first time.

Hannah Moscovitch was named the winner of the English-language award for This is War, her play about four soldiers serving in Afghanistan. It was first performed at the Tarragon Theatre early last year.

Moscovitch becomes the first playwright to win the Trillium Book Award in its 27-year-history.

Marguerite Andersen took the French-language award for La Mauvaise Mere.

And the Trillium Book Award for poetry goes to Souvankham Thammavongsa for Light.

The Trillium Book Award is among the most highly regarded national and international literary prizes. Moscovitch and Andersen each receive $20,000 and Thammavongsa receives $10,000.
