There’s a help-wanted sign on the door of the Leader of the Opposition’s office at Queen’s Park this morning.

Tim Hudak told Conservative MPPs late yesterday he will not be leading them when the legislature resumes on July 2nd.

Hudak’s decision follows a humiliating defeat in the provincial election that saw his party lose nine seats against an unpopular Liberal government. Many MPPs blame Hudak’s promise to elminated 100,000 public sector jobs for the loss.

The party still hasn’t decided when to hold a leadership convention. Prominent Tory MPPs such as Christine Elliott, Lisa MacLeod, and Monte McNaughton are leading the list of possible successors. Some Conservatives on the federal level are also said to be considering a run at the job.

In the meantime, the party will have to choose an interim leader.

Premier Kathleen Wynne and her new cabinet will be sworn in next Tuesday.
