If you’re thinking of cooling-off in Lake Ontario, you’d better stay out of the water at two Toronto beaches.

The public health department says it’s not safe to swim at Sunnyside Beach and Cherry Beach.

There’ve been high levels of e.coli  detected – exceeding the threshold of 100 e.coli per 100 ml of water.

Sunnyside (south of High Park) registered nearly three times the amount of e.coli deemed to be safe.

Cherry Beach (near the lower Don Lands) had an e.coli count of 168.

Sunnyside has now had swimming curtailed five times since June 1st – but Cherry Beach had a flawless record this year – until today.

The beaches themselves aren’t closed but Toronto Public Health advises against swimming because of an increased risk of infection.

Nine other city beaches are safe to swim in.
