Vancouver author Tom Rachman has a screen deal for his smash debut novel, The Imperfectionists.

The book was originally optioned by Brad Pitt’s production company. But, after crafting a screenplay, Plan B  decided the book wouldn’t work on film.

Instead, BBC Worldwide will turn Rachman’s story about a struggling newspaper into a series.

The Imperfectionists became an international bestseller and made the Scotiabank Giller Prize long list in 2010.

Rachman’s latest book, The Rise and Fall of Great Powers, is also getting rave reviews.
