Toronto’s embattled mayor could be setting himself up for another scene like the one that played out on Eglinton Avenue the other day when shirtless protesters disrupted Rob Ford’s announcement and called on him to resign. Mayor Ford is planning to make a transit announcement this morning at the TTC on Bathurst Street, along with Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver. The shirtless protesters who’ve been showing up at Ford’s events since last week are expected to repeat their tactics at this press conference as well.
Toronto City Council meets again today, after Mayor Ford was the only member to vote against funding a gay youth shelter. Ford was later asked by reporters why he was the only hold out. “We have enough shelters for youth in this city. We do not have to spend $2.2 million on a youth shelter.” He was then pressed by one reporter, to answer whether or not he is homophobic, to which Ford said, “I’m a spendophobic, I’m not a homophobe.”
